Deacon Don, We Love You and Will Miss You So Much!

I loved him because he gave us hugs and high fives.
I remember he fought in wars.
I loved him because he was friendly.
I remember he always told great stories.
I loved that he told us stories about Jesus.
He always carved crosses and other beautiful things.
He liked church.
He prayed a lot and was good at blessings.
I remember he was funny.
I remember that he cared for us and wanted to keep us safe.
He loved everyone.
He loved the crucifix and Jesus.
He was always smiling.
He always prayed for farmers.

He made us feel special.

Important Announcement - Accelerated Reader

We will begin AR testing this week.  "AR" stands for Accelerated Reader.  It is a program that measures your child's reading abilities and recommends a reading level for him or her.  This level is tailored just for your child so the books she or he reads will not be too easy or too frustrating.  Almost all books in my classroom library and the schools "Book Nook" are labeled for these levels.  After a student reads a book she or he will take a test on it on the AR website here at school.  These tests measure reading comprehension. The better the student's score, the more points he or she will earn.  These points are used to earn incentives.  It is my goal to make reading a fun and relaxing activity.  This program will help with that.  We will be taking the diagnostic test via computer starting Wednesday.

It's Been a Busy Couple of Weeks in First Grade!

First Grade made medals that reminded everyone that we are all important to God.

While learning letter writing in English class, First Grade decided to write a practice letter to God.

We put on a puppet show of the story of The Good Samaritan.

We practiced emergency bus evacuation procedures with Mr. Lee.

We celebrated our top sellers in our magazine fundraiser with a prize assembly.

During the assembly we raced our pig, "Cave Bear", dressed by our top seller, Angelo and his family.
